Young Harris College

Women's State Champions ! - 1997

YHC

In a town in northern Georgia
where the stars bejewel the sky
the Mountains stand and give command
to all who pass them by:
"Halt ye Men, Women, and Child
Halt, and lend an ear
And listen to how dreams come true
Born of Sweat and Tears.
"

]

From a college called Young Harris
came a ‘First Year’ soccer team.
Who would have guessed they’d be the best
in region seventeen !
Hail the girls ! The coach ! The Game !
Every memory.
We say with pride, from deep inside,
"Hail the Victory !"

]

Yet beyond the First place Trophy
there’s a tale that must be told:
of morning runs and ‘lappers’ done
to purify the gold
Die to Self ! The Rule ! The Way !
All must build the Dream
Ring not the chime of ‘I, me, mine’
Team’s the word: The Team !

]

Hard to say just how it happened:
that the Many became One.
In private talks when hearts are locked?
Or ‘eighteen second’ runs?
In a game - down 5 to nil
fighting to the end?
The sum of these creates a Team -
Spirit, Love, and Friends.

]

So at last the season started.
And that Fire still remains.
Like dynamite, those vans of white
just blew out Purple rain.
Gordon’s Field... The whistle blows...
(Tears come even yet)
Then Lindsey’s pass... Then Megan’s blast...
Nothing then but net !

]

We will always see your faces;
hear your nicknames as you play.
Madge, Ky and Meg, Big Girl and Legs,
Abs, Ambular, and Bay.
Freak Nasty. Lar, Squeaky Knees.
(‘Badges’ to be worn.)
Jess, Vee, Crack Rock, Deanner and Brock
Beaker - Psycho blond.

]

So we thank you for the laughter,
through the times when things got rough.
When ‘rocks where thrown’ you held your own,
like diamonds next to dust.
( Special note: To those who felt
Injuries’ dark curse !
We know your pain to ‘watch’ the game
cuts you even worse ).

]

For the girls were taught with Passion
in this Game you never quit.
So ‘charge the hill’ with iron will -
and "get all over it".
Make it count ! Play hard. Dig deep !
Now’s the time to start:
To ‘win the gold’, the words were told,
"Play it from your Heart !"

]

And to Coach - our hearts are humbled
from our hearts we all thank you
Who held our girls as priceless pearls
for they were ‘her kids’ too !
Number one ! The plaque did read…
We say ‘not quite right
The words scribed there ‘Coach of the year’
We say ‘Coach of Life !
